Character List
John - The son of the Director and Linda, John is the only character to have grown up inside of the Reservation. He cannot seem to fit in on the New Mexico Reservation and also finds it hard to fit in the World society. He also as quote at knows Shakespeare’s plays into great detail.
Bernard Marx - An Alpha, finds it hard to fit into the World society because he is physical different. He believes and practices different beliefs than the society. He is unhappy being a part of the World society and this unhappiness makes him desire a society which he can fit in even more.
Helmholtz Watson - An Alpha who epitomizes what an Alpha should be. But he feels like his work has no worth and longs to do something different with his life. He finds a friend in Bernard because they have a common dislike of the World society.
Lenina Crowne - Her behavior is sometimes intriguingly unorthodox, which makes her attractive to the reader and also to many of the main characters including Bernard and John. She has many of the same interests as the World society but she does break some rules by only dating only Bernard for a long period of time and also falling in love with John.
Mustapha Mond - He is the Resident World Controller of Western Europe, one of only ten World Controllers. He was given the choice to be exiled or become a World Controller because he was finding many things were different the World society than what he was finding in his science research. He also is the person that has all of the books that are not allowed in the society.
Fanny Crowne - Lenina Crowne's friend and she is the person that expresses and follows the World society rules. She also warns Lenina to date more men or else she would be punished.
Henry Foster - One of Lenina's many lovers, perfect World citizen and follows all the rules. But he is very jealous of Bernard because he likes Lenina.
Linda - She is a Beta and also John’s mother. While at the New Mexico Savage Reservation with the director she became pregnant with a son. She got lost and hurt her head one night and Indians came and helped he and let her join their village after she was left behind by the director. She was ashamed of John and she could not return to the World State. She wanted to return to the World State and she missed the soma deeply.
The Director - He is a head figure in the World society he threatens to exile Bernard. But he finds out that he fathered John and become humiliated.
